John Garrett

Senior Counsel

John Garrett has more than 40 years of experience in private equity as both an investor and an attorney. Mr. Garrett joined the Firm in 2004 as a board member, is now the Firm’s Senior Legal Counsel and has served as a Senior Advisor to the Firm since 2015.

Mr. Garrett was previously a Managing Director at Meritage Funds, a family of private equity investment funds based in Denver. During his sixteen-year tenure at Meritage, Mr. Garrett had direct involvement in approximately $500 million of venture capital and growth equity investments and served as a director or board observer at various Meritage portfolio companies.

Prior to Meritage, Mr. Garrett was an attorney in private practice specializing in private equity as a partner with Kirkland & Ellis in its New York City and Denver offices and as head of the corporate and securities practice group of a prominent Denver law firm. Mr. Garrett’s legal practice encompassed a wide spectrum of transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buy-outs, restructurings, spin-outs and divestitures, public and private securities offerings and commercial finance.

Mr. Garrett is a graduate of Florida State University and received his law degree from Georgetown University.
